What's
Ahead: The Drake men's cross country team, after
its fourth team title of the season, will head to Peoria, Ill., to compete in
the Bradley Classic on Friday. The 8,000-meter race at the Newman Golf Course
will start at 5 p.m. This marks the final meet before the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country
Championship on Oct. 30 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Last
Time Out: Fueled by three top-five performances, the Bulldogs won the
Walt Disney Cross Country Classic at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in
Orlando, Fla., on Oct. 8.
The Bulldogs, battling wet conditions for the first time this
fall campaign, earned 31 points to win the team title.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was sophomore Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa), who ran the 8,000-meter
course in 25:13.86 to earn second-place. Fellow sophomore Omet Kak (Des Moines, Iowa) was fourth in
25:33.10, while senior Colin Hagan (Wichita, Kan.) finished fifth with a
time of 25:42.98.
Senior Ben Jaskowiak (Madison, Wis.) had a ninth-place
outing completing the course in 26:13.17, while junior Charlie Lapham (Golden Valley, Minn.) was 11th
in 26:17.85.

Year Ago: Returning
to competition after a two-week layoff, a young Drake squad finished seventh in
the 21-team Bradley Classic at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill., on Oct.
15, 2010.
Omet Kak led the Bulldogs by placing 14th overall out of 211
runners. He covered the 8,000-meter course in 24 minutes 42 seconds. DePaul's
Matthew Graham won the meet in 23:37.
Brogan Austin, a former three-time Iowa prep state
champion, was 22nd in 24:51.
Ben Jaskowiak was 55th in 25:30, while Tim Cornish placed 57th in
25:35.
Charlie Lapham was 66th in 25:40, while
then-freshman Doug Brady (Englewood, Colo.) was 68th in
25:43.
Drake Ranked 12th In USTFCCCA Midwest
Regional Poll: The
Drake men's cross country team remains 12th in the United States Track and
Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Midwest Region poll released on
Oct. 3.
The Bulldogs began the year ranked 12th before
rising to ninth after their Oz Memorial team title in early September.
The next regional poll conducted by the USTFCCCA
will be released next Monday (Oct. 17).
Up Next: Drake will compete against conference foes at the State Farm MVC Cross Country Championship in Terre
Haute, Ind., on Oct. 30. The 8,000-meter race will be held at the LaVern
Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
