DES MOINES, Iowa -
The Drake University softball team dropped its final home game of the season,
2-1, to Creighton Wednesday at Ron Buel Field. The Bulldogs fell to 30-18
overall, including 16-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference after their third-straight
defeat.
Drake, down 2-1 in the seventh, loaded the bases on a Jenna DeLong (Dalton Gardens, Idaho)
double, a Creighton throwing error that should have ended the contest and a
two-out walk by Erin Mollohan (Tinley
Park, Ill.). The Bulldogs left them loaded in the seventh, ending the game with
10 stranded runners.
DeLong took the loss in the circle after tossing 5.1
innings and allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six. The loss was
DeLong's second-straight after she had previously begun Valley play at 12-0.
Senior Brynne Dordel (Chanhassen, Minn.) was sharp in 1.2 innings of relief work. The
senior struck out three to tie Laurie Bowden (1990-93) for second place on
Drake's all-time career strikeout list with 670.
Offensively, freshman Amy Pierce (Olathe, Kan.) went 2-for-4 and scored Drake's lone run.
The freshman moved her team-best MVC batting average to .370 on the season.
Drake travels to Springfield, Mo. to take on Missouri
State in a three-game series this weekend. The teams open the set with a noon
doubleheader on Saturday.
