DES MOINES, Iowa - Junior Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) staked
claim to the championship in the 'A' singles flight to lead the Drake men's
tennis final on the final day of the Drake Fall Invitational on Sunday (Sept.
25) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
Ghorbel dispatched of Axel Lagerof of Northern Illinois, 6-2, 6-2, to
corral the Bulldogs' lone title on the day.
Senior Jonathan Hadash
(Lapid, Israel) vied to oppose Ghorbel in that championship tilt but came up
short in dropping a 7-6, 7-6 decision to Lagerof.
In the 'B' singles draw, freshman Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina) was dealt a 4-6,
7-6 (3), 6-3 setback by Matt Hagan of Iowa in the semifinal round.
Freshman Grant Tesmer
(Lincoln, Neb.) advanced to the final in the 'C' bracket with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-4
victory past Elliott Baker of Creighton before falling in the title match, 6-1, 6-4
against Iowa's Garret Dunn.
Drake returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 1) as several Bulldogs will
travel to Tulsa, Okla., to compete in the prequalifying draw at the Intercollegiate
Tennis Association All-American Championships.
