MOINES, Iowa - The Drake women's cross country "B" squad
earned a second-place showing at the Grand View Invitational on Friday (Sept.
30).
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was freshman
Melissa Parks (Norfolk, Neb.), who earned an eighth-place showing finishing in
19:39. 2010 Drake Relays 10,000-meter champion Obsie Birru of Grand
View won the 5,000-meter race at Ewing Park in 17:51.
Close behind Parks was sophomore Erin Poss (Antioch, Ill.) who
earned ninth-place with a time of 19:53.Fellow sophomore Celia Venezia
(Labadie, Mo.) was 10th crossing the line in 19:54.
"I felt like our team competed very well today," commented head coach
Dan Hostager. "Though cross country is much more about the competition and the
place more than the time, many of our squad came away with personal best times."
The Bulldogs will send their top-seven runners to Orlando, Fla., to
compete at the Walt Disney Cross Country Classic next Saturday (Oct. 8).
