TULSA, Okla. - Sophomore
Danielle Brooks
(Red Wing, Minn.) fired back-to-back rounds in the 70's to help spark the Drake
women's golf team at the Bob Hurley ORU Shootout hosted by Oral Roberts on
Monday (Oct. 1) at the Meadowbrook Country Club.
The Bulldogs fired
rounds of 313 and 321 to post a 36-hole total of 634 to stand tied for 11th
among the 13 competing schools.
"After a solid
opening round, I was a little disappointed with our effort over the final 18
holes today," Drake head coach Leanne Smith commented. "That being said, we find ourselves
only six shots outside of sixth place.
If we can come out strong tomorrow and put a good round together, we can
be in contention for a finish in the top half."
Junior Hadley Jennings (Trenton, Mo.) led the Bulldogs' effort carding a 151
(74-77=151) total and is tied for fifth.
Drake's
most-impressive performance came courtesy of Brooks, who put together rounds of
77 and 75 for a 152 total to stand tied for seventh.
Senior Chelsey Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) contributed a 36-hole total of 158 (77-81=158)
and is tied for 30th place.
Registering
tournament totals of 179 (91-88=179) and 181 (85-96=181) to place 71st and
72nd, respectively, were freshman Katie Clausen (Hinton, Iowa) and sophomore Ashley Brooks (Red Wing, Minn.).
"It was good to see
Hadley (Jennings) continue her solid run of play, while Chelsey (Falk) turned in quality
rounds today," said Smith. "I was
encouraged to see Ashley (Brooks) come out and fire an 85 in her first collegiate
round, while her twin sister, Danielle, put together a pair of strong rounds
today for us."
The final 18 holes of
the Bob Hurley ORU Shootout swings into action with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on
Tuesday (Oct. 2).
