MINNEAPOLIS,
Minn. - The Drake
men's tennis team dominated play on the final day of the Gopher Invitational on
Sunday (Nov. 4) sweeping all 11 of its matches, including eight in singles
action.
On
the strength of their efforts over Dartmouth, the Bulldogs received 4-0 tournament marks in singles from senior Jean Erasmus (Windhoek, Namibia), junior Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) and sophomores
Alen Salibasic
(Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Ben Mullis (Leicestershire, England). Contributing 3-0 records in singles
were seniors Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) and James McKie (Edinburgh Scotland), along with
freshman Ben Lott
(Newcastle, England).
Posting 3-1, 3-1, and 2-1 ledgers,
respectively, in doubles for Drake were the duos of Erasmus/Goodman, Lott/Salibasic and Ghorbel/McKie.
The
Gopher Invitational was a round-robin tournament with the person/duo with the
best-overall record on the weekend winning each group.
For
the singles competition, there were eight groups with each having one player
from each squad, totaling five players. Each player battled the other four competitors within their group.
For doubles competition, there were four groups.
Drake opens its spring campaign
hosting the Missouri Valley Conference Individuals at the Roger Knapp Tennis
Center (Jan. 18-20, 2013).
