CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Junior Marissa Smith (Ajax,
Ontario) ran a personal best of 8.44 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles to win the
event and lead the Drake women's track team at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field
Championship on Sunday, Feb. 26 at the UNI Dome.
Smith edged out UNI's Olimpia Nowak by two-hundredths of a second
in the thrilling finals. Smith's time of 8.44 is also the second best in school
history, Additionally, Smith became the first Drake hurdler since Kasey
McDaniel to win the 60-meter hurdles title.
Senior Kirsten Lake (Parker,
Colo.) was seventh in the finals of the 800 in 2:16.44.
In the mile, freshman Mariel Fulton (Louisville,
Colo.) was eighth in 5:16.68, while junior Cammy Dole (Anamosa, Iowa) was 10th in 5:18.58.
The meet concludes the indoor regular season for the Bulldogs
