FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Sophomore Andy Curtis (Manchester, Iowa) won the hammer throw at the Arkansas
Spring Invitational to lead the Drake men's track and field team in the Bulldogs first outdoor contest of the season.
Curtis
won the event with a career best of 164 feet 9 inches.
"I'm
thrilled to see Andy get nearly a 15 foot personal best," said throws coach Mark Kostek. "He has improved greatly
and I'm encouraged that he can advance even more technically. "
Junior
Isaac Twombly (Baldwin, Kan.) was
second with a toss of 161 feet 10 inches.
In
the javelin, sophomore Phillip Beeler
(Lenexa, Kan.) was fourth with a throw
of 202 feet 2 inches, while junior Kevin Harp (Iowa City, Iowa) claimed eighth with a heave of 195 feet 11 inches.
Sophomore Omet Kak (Des Moines, Iowa) was fifth in the seeded 1500-meters finishing in 3:50.78.
Senior
Charlie Lapham (Apple Valley, Minn.)
was second in the unseeded 1500-meters clocking in at 3:53.88. Senior Matt Jurysta (Oshawa, Ontario) snared
sixth-place in 3:57.46.
Senior
Jon DeGrave (Lake Villa, Ill.)
finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in 52.73.
Senior
Shaun James (Lawrence, Kan.) was
15th in the 100-meters (10.97) and 200-meters (21.99).
The
Bulldogs will travel west to partake in the Stanford Invitational on April 7.
