DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake Bulldogs defeated the Missouri State Bears, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at Ron Buel Field. Torey Craddock (Tucson, Ariz.) finished 3-3 with a home run and three RBI to help Drake take the series against Missouri State.
Freshman Rebekah Schmidt (Cottage Grove, Minn.) pitched five innings and allowed just one run on four hits to earn her fourth win of the season. Jordan Gronewold (Carlisle, Iowa) started for Drake (15-16, 8-1 MVC) and went two innings and allowed one run on three hits.
Craddock drove home the first run of the game with an RBI single that plated Amy Pierce (Olathe, Kan.) in the first inning. Missouri State tied the game in the second inning an RBI double by Caitlin Chapin.
Hayley Nybo (Minnetonka, Minn.) added another run in the third inning for the Bulldogs with a sacrifice fly that scored Pierce.
Craddock's blast came in the fifth inning and knocked Missouri State (15-13, 4-5 MVC) starter Natalie Rose out of the game. Pierce had led off the inning with a single and came home on Craddock's fifth home run of the season and she is now tied with Nybo for the team lead.
Pierce finished the game 3-4 with three runs and two stolen bases.
Chelsea Jones added a solo home run in the seventh inning for the Bears. Jones finished 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Rose went four innings and allowed four runs on nine hits and she fell to 11-5 on the season.
Drake will travel to Iowa City on Wednesday, April 4 to face the Iowa Hawkeyes. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. The Bulldogs will return home to Ron Buel Field on Tuesday, April 10 to face the Iowa State Cyclones at 4 p.m.
