What's Ahead: The Drake men's track and field
squad will compete for the third consecutive weekend, traveling to Lincoln,
Neb. to compete in the Frank Sevigne Husker Invite. The meet, hosted by the
University of Nebraska at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, will start Friday,
Feb. 1 at noon with heptathlon events and restart Saturday, Feb. 2, at 10 a.m.
with the bulk of the competition.
Last Time Out: Field competitors Isaac Twombly (Baldwin, Kan.) and Andy Curtis (Manchester, Iowa)
continued to yield top-10 scores in the young indoor season. Coming off
shattering his own school record, Twombly finished second in the weight throw
with a toss of 63-6.75. Curtis was seventh in the event with a throw of 54-8.
Senior Dan Karys (Bartlett, Ill.) was sixth in
the long jump at 22-5.57 while Alex
Kaster (Omaha, Neb.) was fifth in the triple jump, leaping 45-7.25. In the vertical
jumps Ryan Cook (Colorado Springs,
Colo.) and Scott Goad each cleared
6-4.75 with Cook finishing fifth on misses while Goad was seventh.
Brett Wright (Longmont, Colo.) was second in the
200 meters with a time of 22.47 while Charlie
Lapham (Golden Valley, Minn.) was sixth in the 800 meters in 1:56.59.
Three
Bulldogs' hurdlers advanced to the finals in the 60-meter hurdles. Travis Marsh (Ankeny, Iowa) topped the
group coming in ninth in 8.36 while Kai
Asberry (Carrollton, Texas) and Julian
Todd-Borden (Carlsbad, Calif.) were 12th and 14th respectively.
A Year Ago: Omet Kak (Des Moines, Iowa) won the unseeded
mile at the Frank Sevigne Invitational in a time of 4:10.59, two one-hundredths
of a second faster than the next competitor. Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa) finished sixth in the event.

(Lake Villa, Ill.) finished eighth in the finals of the 400-meter dash in 48.50
and Ben Jaskowiak (Madison, Wis.) placed 14th in the 3,000-meters in 8:44.69.
Up Next: The team will compete in the Iowa
State Classic next Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9 in Ames, Iowa.
