ATLANTA, Ga. - The No. 39 Drake men's tennis team capped a successful day on the court registering its second triumph over a ranked opponent on Sunday (March 16), downing 71st-ranked Georgia State (7-11), 4-0.
The Bulldogs (11-5) catapulted themselves to the victory earning the doubles point with wins at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions, respectively.
Claiming the tally with an 8-1 decision over Thomas Cook and Robert Schulze at the top spot was the tandem of senior Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) and sophomore Ben Lott (Newcastle, England).
In singles, Lott extended Drake's advantage to 2-0, besting Jannis Koeke, 6-0, 6-0, on the No. 2 court.
Junior Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina) pushed the Bulldogs' lead to 3-0 downing Thomas Cook at the No. 1 position, 6-3, 7-5.
Goodman then garnered the match-clinching tally at No. 3, dispatching Schulze, 6-0, 6-3.
The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday (March 20) competing at the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley Spring Classic in San Diego, Calif. Drake's opponent and full tournament brackets will be announced on Tuesday (March 18).
