Lott Advances At ITA All-Americans

TULSA, Okla. - Drake men's tennis junior Ben Lott (Newcastle, England) opened his run at the Saint Francis Health Systems/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships on Monday (Sept. 29) with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph past Georgia's Wayne Montgomery in the first round of the qualifying draw.

In his initial match of the season, Lott dispatched Montgomery in straight sets to advance to Tuesday's (Sept. 30) second round.

Montgomery came into action against Lott having won two tournaments (Southern Intercollegiates and Cajun Classic) this fall en route to a perfect 10-0 singles ledger. Five of his 10 wins were against players ranked Nos. 3, 49, 56, 82 and 89, respectively. Montgomery was rated fifth in the preseason/newcomers rankings by the ITA and as a junior player reached a career high ITF U-18 world ranking of No. 7 in 2013.

Lott, who won a team-best 28 singles matches a year ago, returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 30) battling 79th-rated Benjamin Lock of Florida State at 8:00 a.m. Lott will also team up with senior Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina) in doubles later in the day.
