Track And Field Wraps Up Competition At Jack Jennett Invitational

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Drake University men's and women's indoor track and field teams continued their 2015 season against Indiana State, UNI and Wichita State on Saturday at UNI's Jack Jennett Invitational.

Both Bulldog teams finished fourth in the team standings with Indiana State taking top honors in both the men's and women's scoring.

However, Drake recorded 24 top-five finishes on the day, highlighted by Samantha Nielsen (Maplewood, Minn.) winning the women's 800 meters in 2:13.83 to just narrowly miss a personal best. Rai Ahmed-Green (Irvine, Calif.) finished second in the 200 meters in 25.47 to lead a sprints crew that had five top-five finishes.

“Rai continues to lead the sprinters while Danyelle Cole (Kansas City, Kan.) remains consistent,” said Drake head coach Natasha Kaiser-Brown. “I expect a breakthrough from them soon.”

In the men's sprints, Pierce Vincent (Fayetteville, Ga.) finished third in the 60 meters in 7.01 while Kai Asberry (Carrollton, Texas) had the team's fastest qualifying time of the day of 6.97. Asberry finished fifth in the finals of the 60 meters and fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 49.68. Steven Jordan (McFarland, Wis.) also scored in multiple events for the Bulldogs with a third-place finish in the 200 meters and a ninth-place showing in the 400 meters.

The men's field events saw Adam Perkins (Lake Quivira, Kan.) finish fifth in the pole vault by clearing 15-3.

“Adam Perkins had a great meet in returning to his 15-foot territory,” Kaiser-Brown said.

Johnathan Osifuye (Woodbury, Minn.) also finished fourth in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump for the Bulldogs.

Kayla Bell (Bollingbrook, Ill.) continued to lead the women's jumpers by taking fourth in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump.

Kayla Bell has put together a nice series of jumps over the last two weeks,” Kaiser-Brown said of Bell's performance this week following last weekend's personal best in the triple jump.

The Bulldogs' indoor season continues next weekend in Lincoln, Neb., at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational Feb. 6-7.
