DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team will have its hands full this weekend as the Bulldogs square off with No. 70 Minnesota on Friday and No. 47 Dartmouth on Saturday at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
Drake recorded three 7-0 sweeps last weekend over Creighton, North Dakota and Gustavus Adolphus. Mariel Ante (Riverside, Calif.) earned Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honor, giving the Bulldogs the weekly award for the second consecutive week.
Minnesota has dropped three of its last five dual matches and fell to Marshall, 4-3, in the Gophers' last time out on Feb. 15. The Gophers haven't faired well in doubles play with an 11-8 record in dual matches as No. 2 doubles has recorded six of their wins. On the singles side, No. 5 has been dominant for MU going 6-0 this year. No. 4 singles is the only spot with an under .500 record at 3-4.
Dartmouth enters Saturday's matchup coming off its first-ever ECAC Women's Indoor Tennis Championship title. The Big Green jumped from 62nd-ranked to No. 47 in the nation on Tuesday. Dartmouth is undefeated this year, 7-0, and has beaten three top-55 teams.
Drake returns to the Roger Knapp Tennis Center on Friday, Feb. 27 when St. John's comes to town. The Bulldogs will wrap up next week's action against UW-Milwaukee on Saturday, Feb. 28.
