Track And Field Opens Jim Duncan Invitational

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University track and field teams won two events and had eight competitors finish in the top four during the first day of the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium.

“Today was a good start to the meet and I think we've set ourselves up to have a good Saturday,” said Drake head coach Natasha Kaiser-Brown. “We had a lot of athletes finish in the top 3-4 of their events.”

Drake opened the evening with a pair of wins in the field events as Ryan Cook (Colorado Springs, Colo.) cleared a season-high 6-7 to win the high jump. Johnathan Osifuye (Woodbury, Minn.) jumped 46-4 to win the triple jump while Sean Buczek (Crystal Lake, Ill.) finished third with a huge personal best jump of 46-0.75 in the event.

In five events on the track, the Bulldogs recorded three top-four finishes led by Conor Wells' (Des Moines, Iowa) second-place finish of 14:48.20 in the men's 5,000 meters. Melissa Parks (Norfolk, Neb.) led the women's distance runners with a personal best of 11:19.57 to finish third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Minutes later, Krista Maguire (Wausau, Wis.) finished fourth in the 5,000 meters by laying down a time of 17:20.49.
