Ante, Jensen and Johnson Earn All-MVC Women's Tennis Honors

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake University's Mariel Ante (Riverside, Calif.), Adrienne Jensen (Iowa City, Iowa) and Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) garnered all-Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis honors, announce by the league office on Thursday night.

Ante and Jensen were named first team all-MVC No. 1 doubles, snapping a 21-year drought for the Bulldogs. Susan Hall and Nikki Uelaze were the last duo in1994 to earn first-team all-league honors at No.1.

"I am proud of both Mariel and Adrienne to receive this honor. For Adrienne to receive this award as a freshman is a huge honor," said Drake head coach Sadhaf Pervez.

Ante also collected all-select team honors for her three conference wins at No. 1 singles, as Johnson joined her to the all-select team

"Mariel and Maddie have had such a successful season at the Nos. 1 and 2 singles spot. When I came to Drake Mariel was the No. 7 player on this team, to see how she has grown into a No. 1 singles and doubles player has been amazing to watch," said Sadhaf.

Ante and Jensen posted a league-best 5-2 MVC record and finished the regular season with six dual victories together at No. 1 doubles.

Johnson went 5-1 in league play and completed the regular season with a 23-11 record, while posting a 9-2 mark at No. 3 singles and 5-1 record at No. 2 singles.

Johnson was also named first-team MVC Scholar-Athlete for holding 4.0 GPA as a psychology major.

The Bulldogs begins the MVC tournament on Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. against Missouri State.
