DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University men's basketball team continues its homestand on Wednesday evening when it hosts Indiana State at the Knapp Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the contest being broadcast on Mediacom MC22,
The Valley on ESPN3 and on radio via ESPN Des Moines 1350-AM.
Wednesday's game is also the Bulldogs' 'We Back the Blue Night' with the program inviting local law enforcement agencies and officers to the Knapp Center. All law enforcement officers and their families receive free admission by showing their badge at the West Lobby doors. Additionally, there will be a pregame reception for law enforcement and halftime recognition. The Bulldogs take to their home court having won three-straight home games for the first time since the 2011-12 after rallying to defeat Evansville, 88-76, on Sunday afternoon. The win improved the Bulldogs to 2-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Indiana State, which earlier this season defeated then No. 15 Butler, is 0-4 in conference action with a pair of overtime road losses as well as losses to league leaders Wichita State and Illinois State.
Wednesday's game will be the Bulldogs' ninth under head coach
Jeff Rutter and the team is averaging 80.4 points per game overall and are second in the MVC in scoring in conference games with 81.0 points per game in those four contests. Under Rutter, the Bulldogs are 3-0 when scoring 80 or more points and the team is 15-1 over the past four seasons when hitting the 80-point mark.
Ore Arogundade (Chicago, Ill.) is one of the Bulldogs that has picked up his scoring in recent weeks and is averaging 12.4 points per game during the last five games, including a career-high 17 points in the Bulldogs' win over Evansville. Joining him in the offensive surge has been
De'Antae McMurray (Alton, Ill.) who is averaging 13.5 points per game in conference action.
The Sycamores boast the MVC's second leading scorer in Brenton Scott who is averaging 18.7 points per game while Everrett Clemmons and Matt Van Scyoc each add 9.4 points per outing.
Following Wednesday's game, the Bulldogs make the short trip to Cedar Falls, Iowa, to take on UNI on Jan. 15 at 3 p.m.
