AUSTIN, Texas – The Drake University men's tennis team fell to No. 9 Texas, 4-1, on the first day of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend event Saturday at the Weller Tennis Center.
 
The Longhorns made quick work of the Bulldogs in doubles by earning convincing wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to secure the point.
 
Texas went up 2-0 when No. 36 Yuya Ito defeated Drake freshman Barny Thorold 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
 
Sophomore Calum MacGeoch brought the Bulldogs within one, 2-1, with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over George Goldhoff at No. 2.
 
The Longhorns managed to clinch the win with wins on courts six and three to advance to the second round.
 
The Bulldogs will face off against Rice in a consolation match on Sunday at 10 a.m. to close out the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
