MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Drake University men's tennis was knocked out of the ITA Central Regional Championships main draws on Friday in Minneapolis.
 
The Bulldogs had four players fall in the third round of the singles draw. Junior Ben Clark rolled past No. 25 seeded Dylan Bednarczyk from Nebraska 6-2, 6-1 in the second round and then nearly upset No. 7 Felex Corwin from Minnesota as Corwin managed to come away with the third round victory, 2-6, 7-6(6), 6-1. Tom Hands made quick work of Wichita State's Andrea Caligiana, winning 6-0, 6-2, but fell in the third round to No. 11 seed Maxim Tybar from Oklahoma State, 7-5, 6-2. Calum MacGeoch defeated Nebraska's Linus Erhart, who is seeded No. 17, 7-6(8), 6-0 to start the day. MacGeoch then fell to No. 8 seed Tristan Meraut 6-3, 6-4 in the third round. Coming of an outstanding first round win, Barny Thorold backed that up with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Creighton's Alex Koca. Thorold then dropped a tough straight setter to No. 11 seed 7-5, 6-2. Vinny Gillespie fell in the second round as he dropped a three setter to Oklahoma's James Davis 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
 
Ben Wood put together a pair of victories in the consolation draw as he topped Creighton's Gandini 6-1, 6-1 and then Iowa's Smietana 5-7, 7-6(5), 10-8.
 
In doubles the Bulldogs didn't fair very well as both teams fell in the second round. MacGeoch and Clark were set back to No. 9 seed Krstanovic and Levin from Minnesota, 8-6.  Gillespie and Hands were bested by Oklahoma State's Scaglia and Draheim, 8-6.
