DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's tennis team closes out its non-conference schedule when the Bulldogs host Upper Iowa on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs hold a 7-5 record and have won three of their last four matches. Drake defeated Gustavus Adolphous 5-2 in its last time out on March 19.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point.
Summer Brills and
Joely Lomas topped Michaela Schulz and Ally Baker, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles, while
Kenya Williams and
Mela Jaglarz secured the point with a 7-5 win at No. 2. Lomas wasted little time at No. 2 singles as she cruised past Baker, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman
Alex Kozlowski extended Drake's lead, 3-0, with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Lilly Hartman at No. 5 singles. Brills secured the match clinching point with her 6-2, 7-5 win over Schulz at No. 1.
The Peacocks come to Des Moines with a 6-2 record and have dropped their last two matches. Upper Iowa fell to Winona State, 7-2 in its last time out on March. 17. Isabella Sella leads the team as the top singles player and has posted a 6-1 record.
The Bulldogs open Missouri Valley Conference action on Saturday, April 1 at Northern Iowa.
