Gillespie And Thorold One Of Four Doubles Teams Still Alive at ITA Central Regional

The pair will compete in the doubles semifinals Sunday at 10 a.m.

TULSA, Okla. - The Drake University men's tennis team's tandem of Vinny Gillespie (Stirling, Scotland) and Barny Thorold (Loughborough, England) will play in Sunday's doubles semifinals of the ITA Central Regional Championship.

Gillespie and Thorold moved into the semifinals via a walkover against their scheduled competitors from Oklahoma, who withdrew from the competition. They will face Nebraska's Toby Boyer and Micah Klousia Sunday at 10 a.m.

Gillespie also competed in singles action Saturday, falling to Tulsa's Majed Kilani in the Round of 16, 6-0, 3-6, 6-0.

Other members of the team also participated in consolation matches including Freddie Powell (Poole, England) defeating a pair of opponents from Omaha in straight sets. Ben Clark (Comberton, England) and Bayo Philips (Houston, Texas) also won consolation matches.
