MINNEAPOLIS – The Drake University women's tennis team completed the second day of the Gopher Invitational Friday, Sept. 21 at the Baseline Tennis Center.
Drake was led by
Sophia Haleas (Clarendon, Ill.) who defeated Habiba Aly of South Dakota 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 in singles action.
In doubles play,
Carmen Palumbo (McLean, Va.) and
Daria Walczak (Lodz, Poland) dropped a pair of close matches, losing to Nebraska's Haakenstad/Reifeis 6-4 and Arkansas' Cepelyte/Rice 6-3.
Kelsey Neville (Antioch, Ill.) and
Sophia Haleas (Clarendon Hill, Ill.) lost to Nebraska's Shinde/Aragon 6-1 and Minnesota's Zhang/Hart 6-1.
In the rest of the singles action, Iowa State's Margarita Timakova defeated Neville 6-4, 6-2.
While Reifeis defeated Walczak 6-1, 6-4 and Cepelyte defeated Palumbo 6-2, 6-2.
