NORMAN, Okla. –The Drake University men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2019 season Saturday at No. 13 Oklahoma 4-0 in the 2019 ITA Kickoff Weekend.
Vinny Gillespie (Stirling, Scotland) and
Barny Thorold (Loughborough, England) fell 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles match to Papa/Van Emburgh.
Calum MacGeoch (Edinburgh, Scotland) and
Tom Hands (Fulbourn, Scotland) then dropped a close No. 3 match 6-4 to Tsorotiotis/Bakshi as the Sooners took the point.
Oklahoma (5-0) then won the No. 5, 6 and 3 singles match to clinch the win over Drake (4-1). The Bulldogs will play Vanderbilt, Sunday morning at 10 a.m. in the consolation match of the ITA Kickoff event.
