Anderson Claims Second MVC Defensive Player of the Week Award

The Wayzata, Minn., native leads the MVC with 6 clean sheets this season.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Drake men's soccer goalkeeper Luke Anderson has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced Tuesday. Anderson earned the award on Sept. 24 in the midst of his four-game clean sheet streak.

"We are delighted that Luke is being recognized again for his outstanding performances," said Drake head coach Gareth Smith. "Six clean sheet performances is an incredible achievement and place him at the top of the conference."

The redshirt sophomore collected three saves in Drake's 2-0 triumph over Evansville this week to tally his sixth shutout of the season, tops in the MVC. Anderson also leads the Valley in shutouts per game with .462.

"He is a pleasure to work with and continues to make great growth as a result of his drive to continue improving," Smith said. "He has made a great contribution to our team's performances and results by making critical, game-changing saves at key moments."

The Purple Aces applied pressure from the outset, unleashing three shots in the game's opening four minutes. In total, Anderson faced 15 shots, but he had an answer for every one of them.

Anderson and the Bulldogs will look for another clean sheet when they host Valparaiso at Tiger Field on Wednesday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
