Track & Field Scores In Four Events; Chapman Sets School Record

Six Bulldogs advance to Sunday's finals.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Drake University track and field teams scored in four events on the first day of the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship with senior Lexie Chapman leading the way with a school record in the weight throw.

Chapman bested her previous record in the event with a toss of 60-7.75 (18.48m) to finish seventh. Christina LeMunyon finished eighth in the pole vault with a clearance of 11-6.25 (3.51m). The Bulldogs also collected points with a sixth-place finish in the women's distance medley relay and a seventh-place finish by the men in the event.

In addition to Drake's scoring performances, six other Bulldogs advanced out of Saturday's preliminary heats into Sunday's finals. Kundai Maguranyanga highlighted those qualifiers with the top qualifying time in both the 60 meters and 200 meters. His time of 6.73 in the 60 meters was the second fastest in school history. Victor Peka also advanced to the final in both events with the fourth-fastest 200-meter time of the day and what ended up being the final qualifying time in the 60 meters.

The Bulldogs also had Kevin Kelly qualify for the final in the mile with a time of 4:16.39 which was the second fastest time in the preliminary heats. Xavier Lechleitner will also race on Sunday in the 800 meters after clocking the second-best 800-meter time of the day in 1:54.78.

For the women's squad, Victoria Coombe posted a time of 8.89 in the preliminary heats of the 60-meter hurdles to advance to Sunday's final with the sixth-fastest time of the day.

Action at the UNI Dome resumes for the Bulldogs Sunday at 11 a.m. with the men's triple jump. Action on the track begins at 1:25 p.m. with the final of the men's mile.
