WICHITA, Kan. – The No. 43 Drake University men's tennis team went 1-1 Friday in the Sunflower State with a 6-1 win over Oral Roberts and a 4-2 loss to No. 44 Wichita State.
 
The Bulldogs improved to 4-0 in the Summit League standings with the dominating 6-1 win against Oral Roberts to open the day.
 
Drake cruised the doubles point and then got wins at Nos. 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 singles from Vinny Gillespie, Tom Hands, Barny Thorold, Calum MacGeoch and Ben Clark, respectively.
 
The Bulldogs capped the afternoon with a tough, 4-2, loss at former MVC rival Wichita State. No. 72 Vinny Gillespie collected the Bulldogs' first win with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles after the Bulldogs dropped the doubles point. Bayo Philips collected the Bulldogs' second point at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win.
 
WSU clinched the match at No. 2 singles when Haru Inoue clipped No. 64 Tom Hands, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
 
The Bulldogs, who stand at 11-5 this season, return to action Sunday with a 3 p.m. match at No. 17 Minnesota.
