A pair of Drake University Bulldogs in Enzo Marie and Brooke Mullins recorded top-10 finishes Friday morning at the Gans Creek Cross Country Classic, hosted by the University of Missouri.
 
The ultra-competitive field featured competitors from Texas A&M, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State and Baylor among the nearly 20 teams competing. As a team, the men finished sixth while the women were ninth.
 
The men's effort was led by newcomer Enzo Marie who finished sixth on the 8-kilometer men's course in 24:09.4. The native of France moved into the top-10 midway through the race and continued to gain ground over the next 2,000 meters before holding his position to the finish. Track All-American Isaac Basten followed him with a 21^st place finish in 24:33.0. Of the Bulldogs' five scorers, three were newcomers with Tobi Gaberscek coming in 24^th and Aziz Jdai taking 28^th.
 
The men's race was won by Texas A&M's Eric Casarez in 23:36.5.
 
Brooke Mullins continued her strong season for the Bulldogs with an impressive third-place finish in the women's 6-kilometer race with a time of 21:11.3. The time was a more than 30 second improvement over her previous 6k best of the season.
 
Mullins ran in the top five for much of the race and gained two spots over the final kilometer to finish just 17 seconds off the winning pace of 20:53.9 set by Wichita State's Yazmine Wright.
 
Mullins was trailed by fellow Australian product Tyla Lumley, who finished 37^th in 22:07.7 in her second race as a Bulldog. Ashlee Siegle also finished in the top 50 with a 48^th place finish in 22:28.21. Lumley was one of three newcomers to also score for the women's team.
 
The Bulldogs return to action Oct. 15 at the Bradley Pink Classic.
