Fogg, Basten Compete in NCAA Cross Country Championship

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. — Drake junior Adam Fogg (Brisbane, Australia) finished 139th, while sophomore teammate Isaac Basten (Buffalo, Minn.) was 217th at the NCAA Men's Cross Country Championships Saturday.

Fogg and Basten were the first Drake runners to compete in the NCAA Championships since Reed Fischer in 2016.

Fogg covered the 10,000-meter course at Apalachee Regional Park in 30 minutes 30.7 seconds, while Basten was timed in 31:33.8.

On Oct. 29 the duo were instrumental in guiding Drake to its first Missouri Valley Conference men's team cross country championship since 1999 with Basten winning the individual title, while Fogg was right behind placing second.

Fogg, who was fourth in the mile at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships, qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships by finishing fourth in the Midwest Regional in Iowa City Nov. 12. That fourth-place finish was the highest ever by a Drake runner in the NCAA Midwest Regional.

Basten advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships following a 19th-place finish at the Regional Championship. Basten earned All-America honors when he finished 12th in the 1,500 at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championship in Eugene, Ore.
