Drake (5-18, 1-5 MVC) is scheduled to play 14 of its next 15 games at Buel Field where it has won 28-straight games dating back to the end of the 2017 season. The impressive streak is currently the best in the nation, five wins better than Boston University, which is next on the list. Drake's last home loss was against Iowa on May 2, 2017 in a narrow 2-0 defeat by the Hawkeyes.

Drake was swept by Missouri State, which sits next in the league standings with a 7-1 record in league games, this past weekend in MVC action. The Bulldogs dropped a close series opener to the Bears by a score of 5-4 before losing the final two games by scores of 4-1 and 14-4 in five innings.

Senior outfielder Macy Johnson continues to blister the softball in 2021, batting an impressive .556 (5-of-9) in the three games against Missouri State. In the series finale, Johnson extended her impressive career-best hitting streak to 26 games with her 12th multi-hit game this season. She leads the MVC in batting average with a career-high .494 clip, which is 53% in front of the next hitter, Eryn Gould of Evansville (.441). Johnson's batting average is currently the best single season clip in school history.

Iowa State (22-8, 0-3 Big 12) and Drake are playing for already the third time in 2021. The Bulldogs and Cyclones played each other at the UNI Dome Tournament and later at the Mizzou Tournament. Iowa State won both games. The Cyclones are coming off a series loss to No. 1 Oklahoma at home.

Drake welcomes Illinois State (18-4, 5-0 MVC), which sits in first place in the MVC standings, for a three-game MVC series starting Friday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader. The series is scheduled to conclude Saturday with a 12 p.m. finale.
