Drake (8-25, 2-10 MVC) is coming off of a thrilling, come-from-behind 7-6 win at Iowa State Tuesday in which the Bulldogs were down 6-0 after their first two innings. Nicole Timmons took the mound and produced 5.1 scoreless innings and six strikeouts. Drake then scored seven-straight runs beginning in the top of the sixth inning with a swing from Laura Anderson resulting in an RBI single. Later, Anderson added the game winning three-run home run, her first home run of the year. It was the fourth meeting between Drake and Iowa State this season, however, it was the first game to result in a Bulldog victory.
The Bulldogs are second in the MVC in hits with 237, 47 of which came from MVC leader and Drake outfielder Macy Johnson.
Evansville (18-13, 6-6 MVC) won just one game of three this past weekend at SIU. The 8-2 win was the back end of Saturday's doubleheader. Starting pitcher Izzy Vetter led Purple Aces in the winning effort with nine strikeouts as she pitched all seven innings. The Bulldogs have won the last six contests between these two teams, winning the last meeting 7-2 to wrap up the 2019 season.
Drake will stay at home following the Evansville series for a doubleheader with in-state rival and conference foe, UNI, on Tuesday, Apr. 20. The first game will start at 4 p.m.
