The Drake University softball team had three student-athletes chosen to the 2021 All-Missouri Valley Conference teams, the MVC announced Wednesday, May 12.
 
Senior 
Macy Johnson and sophomore 
Emily Valtman were named to the All-MVC First Team while senior 
Libby Ryan was selected to the All-MVC Second Team.
 
This is the third career All-MVC selection for Johnson, who earned second team accolades as a freshman in 2018 and first team honors as a junior in 2019 (no All-MVC teams in 2020 due to the cancellation of conference play due to COVID-19 pandemic). She is having an outstanding 2021 season, batting a career-high .435 with a career-best 64 hits, including four triples and 28 stolen bases. Johnson leads the MVC in hits, stolen bases, is tied for first in triples and is second in batting average. She recently recorded her 200
th career-hit becoming just the seventh Bulldog ever with 200 or more career hits.
 
Valtman collected her first-ever All-MVC honor with a great second season. She is batting .324 with career-high totals for home runs (4), doubles (12), hits (44) and runs batted in (38). Her 30 RBI in league games led the MVC this year.
 
This is the second All-MVC Second Team selection for Ryan who also earned the accolade in 2019. This season, she is batting a career-high .370 with a career-high five home runs and 10 doubles to go with 11 stolen bases, 20 RBI and 33 runs scored.
 
In addition to her All-MVC First Team award, Johnson, was tabbed to the MVC All-Defensive Team for the first time. She started 44 games in centerfield for the Bulldogs, recorded just two errors and had three assists with 73 putouts.
 
Drake begins play at the 2021 MVC Tournament on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. on ESPN+. The fifth-seeded Bulldogs will play the winner of No. 8 Evansville or No. 9 Loyola, which meet Wednesday morning at 11 a.m.
