DES MOINES, Iowa – Head coach
Rich Calvert and the entire Drake softball program recently welcomed in a new member. Andy De Jesus has joined the Bulldogs coaching staff as an assistant coach.
De Jesus comes to Drake with a deep knowledge of baseball and softball as a former player and coach. In his most recent experience, he served a baseball and softball instructor at the Diamond Sports Academy.
Prior to beginning his coaching career, De Jesus played five years of professional baseball with stops in the Frontier League, American Association of Professional Baseball, and the Dominican Winter League.
Andy began his playing career at Iowa Central Community College where he earned First-Team NJCAA All-Region honors. He then transferred to Indiana State University where he received several awards including First-Team All-MVC, First-Team All-MVC Defense, and the Coaches' Award.
"Rich and Tina are rich in experience, and that's something that attracted me to this role," De Jesus said about accepting his position at Drake. "In addition, Drake's softball program is a winning program, and I'm excited to keep it that way."
De Jesus has been on campus working with Drake softball for nearly a month.
"We are very excited to welcome Andy to the Drake softball family," Bulldog head coach
Rich Calvert said. "He will elevate the play and competitiveness of our players immediately."
The Bulldogs recently finished their fall softball slate with a road game at Iowa on Oct. 9 and will begin their 2023 season after the new year.
