STILLWATER, Okla. – Drake women's tennis recently completed qualifying and the first round of competition at the ITA Central Regional Championship in Oklahoma. The Bulldogs saw some success on the court with various members advancing in bracket play.
In singles action, Oriana Parkins-Godwin defeated Abigail Thurmer of Arkansas State (6-2, 6-1).
Rebecca Ehn also won by blanking Bradley's Maria Bezmenoca (6-0, 6-0). Elizabete Klavinska advanced with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Jessica Leeman of SIUE and
Darinka Stepan also won in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) over Eva Kresovic of UMKC. Mille Hagensen moved on to the round of 64 with a bye after beating Vipasha Mehra of Iowa. Elsewhere in singles action,
Ines Stephani defeated another MVC foe in Anna Belogliadova of Bradley.
Klavinska, Stepan, and Hagensen all continued to the round of 32. Klavinska advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ines Absisan of Nebraska Omaha,
Darinka Stepan moved on after a victory over South Dakota's Paige Alter, and Hagensen took down Vivian Lai of Southeast Missouri State.
In doubles competition,
Ines Stephani and
Rebecca Ehn won their first-round matchup over Estella Jaeger and Sydney Weinberg of South Dakota (8-2). The Drake duo then advanced to the round of 16 after beating North Dakota's Jule Schulte and Nore Heinitz.
Competition at the Central Regional Championship will conclude tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 17.
