The Drake University softball team is set to head south to the Bevo Classic hosted by Texas. The Bulldogs begin play on Friday March 10.
The Bulldogs head to Texas after playing in the John Cropp Classic in Kentucky. In their meeting against No. 19 Michigan, the Bulldogs went into extra innings after holding them scoreless through the initial seven innings.
The Wolverines managed to score in the bottom of the eighth to end the game, to end the game 1-0.
Junior utility
Emily Valtman leads the team in RBIs (8) and hits (14) this season. She also records one home run.
The Bulldogs will face Nicholls State on Friday after its Friday game against Texas was canceled due to expected wind chills at-or-below freezing in the Austin metro area throughout Friday evening. Drake will take on Nicholls State again on Saturday prior to Minnesota. In their final game of the Bevo Classic, Drake will battle Texas.
Drake's meeting with Nicholls State will be the first in program history.
The Bulldogs met with the Longhorns back in 2007, where Texas won both meetings.
The Gophers met with the Bulldogs back in 2019 and hold a 5-4 record against them.
After returning to Des Moines from the Bevo Classic, the Bulldogs will begin conference play on March 19.
