MCALLEN, Texas -- Haeri Lee is leading the field after the first two rounds of the UTRGV Invitational at McAllen Country Club (par 72) on Monday (March 7). The Drake women's golf team is tied for seventh place as a team following day one with a combined score of 628.
The weather took a turn nine holes into the first round when the temperature dropped into the 50 degree range with rain and wind gusts up to 28-30 miles per hour.
Lee turned in a day-low round of 71 in the opening round following by a 78 for a total of 149 through two rounds for a one stroke lead. The senior from Buffalo Grove, Ill., recorded an eagle on hole 3 in the first round and totaled six birdies on the day.
Sam Paulak shot an 80 through the first 18 holes and responded with a 74 in the second round for a 154 and is currently tied for 12
th overall. Paulak sank a tournament-best nine birdies on day one.
In her spring debut,
Aayushi Sarkar is tied for 29
th place with a combined 160 (81, 79).
Kristen Giles (165) and
Gracie Tribolet (170) rounded out the Bulldog lineup after the first 36 holes.
The final round of the UTRGV Invitational is scheduled to begin with an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday, March 8.
