NORMAL, Ill. – The Drake women's golf team wrapped up competition in its first tournament of the 2025 fall season on Monday afternoon at the Redbird Invitational and finished in eighth place as a team. The Bulldogs posted rounds of 305-296-305 for a team total score of 906.
The Bulldogs had the second-best finish among the six Missouri Valley Conference members that participated in the tournament. Host team Illinois State tied for sixth to edge the Bulldogs, but Drake did place ahead of Evansville, Indiana State, UNI, and Valparaiso. Eastern Kentucky claimed the team title at 879 by one shot over South Dakota.
On the leaderboard for the Bulldogs,
Julie Huggins had the best individual finish. Huggins earned a top-10 result and tied for 10th place following rounds of 74-73-76 for a 223 total score. She ended her first tournament of the fall with an impressive 11 birdies made over her three rounds, which was the third most in the field.
Freshman
Isabella Elgert, making her Bulldog debut, found herself with a top-20 finish as she tied for 19th at 226 (77-74-75). Her final round 75 was tied for the best round of the day for the Bulldogs with fellow freshman
Annabelle Bush. Bush tied for 34th on the leaderboard in her debut at 231 (80-76-75).
The duo of
Alexis Reyes and
Kate Connolly ended inside the top-30 tying for 27th and 30th, respectively. Reyes posted rounds of 74-75-79 en route to a 228 total score. Meanwhile, Connolly, who competed as an individual, shot 78-74-77 for a final tally of 229.
Erika Holmberg rounded out the Bulldogs lineup tying for 51st at 236 (80-74-82).
The individual medalist honor went to Karra Tucker from Eastern Kentucky. She was the only player to finish under-par with a 54-hole total of 213.
Drake returns to action next week with the Lady Clerico hosted by Oral Roberts at Hilcrest Country Club from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sep. 15-16.
