Softball Splits Afternoon in Terre Haute

Bulldogs fall in game one but come out on top in game two.

TERRE HAUTE, Indiana – The Drake University softball team split the afternoon at Indiana State Friday. The Bulldogs fell by one in game won and then took home the win in game two. 
 
Indiana State 4, Drake 3
 
The Sycamores took an early lead after Bella Peterson homer to right field, recording three RBI's to take a 3-0 lead over the Bulldogs.
 
Abi Chipps singled to bring Grace Hunger across home and take the 4-0 lead over Drake.
 
In the top of the seventh, Addie Lightner slammed a ball into left field for a solo home run to put the Bulldogs on the board 4-1.
 
Carey Koenig then doubled to right center, allowing Libby Ryan to cross home plate and bring the Bulldogs within two of the Sycamores.
 
Skylar Rigby then singled down the left line to bring Koenig home and bring the Bulldogs within one of the Sycamores.
 

Drake 12, Indiana State 6
 
The Bulldogs took the early lead in game two when Emily Valtman scored after Libby Ryan walked with bases loaded, putting Drake up 1-0.
 
Macy Johnson then scored after Koenig reached on an error by the Sycamores third baseman.
 
In the bottom of the first, Indiana State recorded a solo home run to trail the Bulldogs by one.
 
Valtman slammed a home run into right field, bringing Haylee Lehman home with her, for Drake to lead 9-2.
 
The Sycamores scored twice in the bottom of the fourth and once in the bottom of the fifth to come within four of Drake. The Bulldogs continued their scoring run in the top of the seventh when Johnson and Valtman both scored after Lightner reached on a fielder's choice.
 
Lightner then scored after MaKayla Rice flied out to left field, making it a 12-6 game.

Nicole Timmons advanced to 5-10 from the circle this season. She pitched five innings and recorded three strikeouts. 
 
Drake advances to 13-21 on the season and 7-6 in conference play. The Bulldogs will face the Sycamores a final time on Saturday April 16 at 11am.
