ST. LOUIS, Missouri -- Five members of the Drake University softball team earned post season honors, as announced by the Missouri Valley Conference on Wednesday May 11.
Macy Johnson and
Emily Valtman both earned First Team All-MVC.
Johnson set three school records this season after she recorded 109 career stolen bases, 122 career walks, and 253 career hits. She led the Bulldogs in batting average all season, currently holds a .374 average. Johnson also ranked in the top 10 in a number of stat categories throughout the season.
Valtman has led the Bulldogs in homeruns all season. She is currently tied for third in the Drake record book as she totals 11 this season. She has ranked in the top 10 in a number of stat categories throughout the season, alongside Johnson. Valtman's versatility on defense throughout the season has helped the Bulldogs earn the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament.
Delaney Taylor,
Addie Lightner, and
Paige Bedsworth all earned Second Team All-MVC
Taylor spent most of the season playing as the designated player for the Bulldogs. She has remained in the top four for team batting average throughout the season. Taylor recorded 42 putouts in her time playing right field this season.
Lightner spent most of the season at first base, where she recorded 166 putouts. Her defensive efforts earned her a spot on the All-Defensive team. She is second on the team in home runs (4) and been a key player for the Bulldogs.
Bedsworth has been versatile for Drake all season. Playing both second base and pitcher, the freshman started four of the last five games in the circle. She recorded 51 strikeouts in her 83.1 innings pitched. She has remained in the top five for team batting average this season.
The Bulldogs await their first opponent in the Missouri Valley Tournament as are set to play the winner of game three on Thursday May 12.
