Basten, Barmes to Represent Drake at NCAA Outdoor Championships

Isaac Basten (1500m) and Anthony Barmes are ready to compete on the national stage.

Anthony Barmes and Isaac Basten will represent the Drake University track & field program at the 2022 Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships June 8-11 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
 
Barmes broke his own school record in the men's hammer throw at the NCAA Division I Track & Field West Preliminary at John McDonnell Field on Wednesday, May 25 with a hammer throw of 220-1 (67.09m). Barmes became the second-ever Drake hammer thrower NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships. Barmes' second throw of the day is the best from a New Zealand competitor this year.
 
Basten recorded a 1500m run time of 3:42.90 in the NCAA Division I Track & Field West Preliminary at John McDonnell Field on Friday, May 27 to advance to Nationals. Basten finished the first round of the men's 1500m run with a time of 3:43.05 on Wednesday (May 25).
 
2022 NCAA indoor track & field All-American Isaac Basten recorded his season best of 3:39.08 in the 1500m run at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 15. Two weeks later, Basten won the 1500m run at the Drake Relays by holding off Moad Zahafi of Texas Tech producing the first victory in the event by a Drake male athlete since 1981, edging the Moroccan challenger by a 3:39.11 to 3:39.59 margin.
 
The men's hammer throw competition begins on Wednesday, June 8 at 4 p.m. CT and Barmes will compete in the second flight. The semifinals of the men's 1500m is set to begin at 6:46 p.m. CT as Basten is slated to race in the second heat.
