Record Book Adjusted at Cyclone Open, Track & Field Moving in Right Direction

Early in the indoor season, the Drake record book continues to be rewritten.

AMES, IOWA – The Drake track & field team showcased their talents at the Cyclone Open inside the Lied Recreation Athletic Center on Saturday, Jan. 21.

"Today was fantastic all around," head coach Jay Koloseus said. "All event areas showed out and our staff is very excited about the direction we are heading as a team. We won events today and our throwers continued to climb the Drake record books. We had two school records and a number of top-10 marks from our distance athletes. It's hard to find the words to describe how proud I am."

Brooke Mullins shattered the Drake women's mile record with a personal best of 4:46.01.

Once again competing in the 800m, Isaac Basten broke the Drake school indoor record with a final time of 1:48.94. While Basten finished third in the field, Emilie Meyer won the women's 800m (2:13.46).

Joseph Kruse won the men's 600 yards with a time of 1:14.46 while the men's 4x400 relay of Caleb Lerus, Hayden Cross, Dylan DeAngelo and Kristian Lodholz took first against six other lineups with a time of 3:20.94. The women's 4x400 relay (Briandrias Rhodes, Iris Hertting, Busiwa Asinga and Madison Bunton) got third place.

In the men's 3000m, Enzo Marie snagged third (8:09.31) while Jack Burn crossed the finish line first in the men's 1000m with a time of 2:32.37.

Centaine Noom-Duckworth moved into second all-time at Drake in the women's weight throw with a personal best toss of 56-1 3/4.

Chandler Haight finished third in the women's shot put (47-2 ¼) and Adam Phillips also took third in the indoor shot put after his output of 54-1 ¾.

Adam Phillips (66-7 3/4) settled into second on Drake's all-time indoor men's weight throw list while finishing runner-up in the event. Ethan Marshall (63-4 ¼) and Anthony Barmes (63-4 ¼) finished third and fourth respectively in the weight throw.
