The Basics
The Drake rowing team will host Creighton for head-to-head races on Saturday, Nov. 4. The races will begin at the Bright-Beckwith Boathouse in Des Moines, Iowa at 9:20 a.m. and finish at 11:30 a.m. The head-to-head races will be determined by the best two out of three. This race is the final race for the Bulldogs this fall.
Coach Charlie DiSilvestro on Drake's Preparation and Outlook
"We haven't been rowing yet this week because of the cold. The cold snap certainly put the brakes on our being outside but we're going to row tonight. They've been doing some really good indoor training to get ready for it. Their spirits are high and they're really anxious to compete with Creighton."
Scouting the Competition
Creighton rowing has impressed this fall, defeating Kansas State and claiming the top spot in all four races in the Iowa Chase. The Blue Jays finished their 2022-23 season with a fifth-place finish in the WCC championship and have gotten off to an impressive start in the new season.
Coach DiSilvestro on Drake's History with Creighton
"It's our oldest and long-standing competition that we have. It's the 31st year we're going to be racing them (Creighton) and the team is looking forward to the challenge tomorrow."
History Versus Creighton
Since 2005, Drake has gone 2-4 against Creighton. The previous Bulldog versus Blue Jay matchup was in 2021 when Creighton defeated Drake 5-0.
Bulldog Boats
Drake will race five boats of five.
Coach DiSilvestro on the Importance of a Home Race
"We host this one, we don't host the September race (versus Creighton). It's one that all the family and friends can see locally without having to travel."
