Des Moines, IA - Creighton edged out Drake in the final race of the fall for the Bulldogs. Drake won the varsity four race but lost the two varsity eight races. The Bulldogs did, however, win the novice 8 and novice 4 races on the day. Each race was determined by the best two out of three style.
 
 "Long day but good day," Head Coach Charlie DiSilvestro said. "We didn't win the trophy but we were really pleased with the racing today and the steps we gained. We also learned that we have things to work on for next spring and we have several months to accomplish that. Hats off to Creighton for their win today."
 
The day began with a tight varsity four race between Drake and Creighton, with Drake winning in the tiebreaker race in the best two out of three competition. The Bulldogs notched a time of 3:02.3 against Creighton's time of 3:05.2 in the deciding race. Ella Bloom, Emily Peck, Grace Joblinske, Claire Mulder and Jenna Smyth were rowing the winning boat for Drake.
 
"Our four did really well, our novices did really well, the varsity raced very hard, learned a lot about what we need to do for a successful spring season and our coxswains did a really great job of handling our first real sprint race of the season," DiSilvestro said.
 
The Bulldog novices won both of their sets, needing only two races in both sets to take down Creighton. The novice eight rowed at 2:51.8 and 2:52.8 marks, defeating Creighton by more than 6 seconds in each race. The novice four paced Creighton with times of 2:51.1 and 2:51.3 in its two races.
 
"I think it's a process this year," Coach DiSilvestro said. "We changed our training plan from last year but it takes a while for a training plan to take hold, and it's happening. We're seeing some speed in all our boats.
 
"They need to stay healthy and take advantage of the indoor time and the holiday break until we hit the water next February. They're rowing really well, the team culture is strong and will only get stronger as we approach our conference championship next May."
