AMES, Iowa -- The Drake track & field team resumed its indoor season at the Cyclone Open inside the Lied Recreation Center with numerous personal records and impressive marks on Friday, Jan. 19.
"We could not have asked for a better opener to 2024," head coach Jay Koloseus said. "All event areas were filled with personal bests, event wins and a school record."
Savannah Ming won the women's 60m dash with a personal best of 7.69 to tie for fifth all-time in the Drake women's indoor record book.
Emilie Meyer finished seventh in the women's mile with a PR time of 4:53.47, which ranks sixth all-time at Drake. Amanda Radava just missed the record book, with a 12th place finish of 4:57.00. Meyer also competed in the women's 3000m with a personal record of 8:57.09 while coming in ninth place.
Centaine Noom-Duckworth followed up her school record-setting performance with a winning weight throw of 61-11. Chinemerem Iwuagwu turned in a heave of 52-11 1/2, as she sits fourth in the Drake indoor record book.
Adam Phillips broke the program record in the men's weight throw, chucking the implement 70-10 3/4 while Anthony Barmes was second with his PR of 68-8 1/2.
Kristian Lodholz kicked off the men's running events with a personal best of 6.86 in the 60m dash to finish second just edging out teammate Justin Cunningham.
Aziz Jdai took fourth in the men's mile with a PR of 4:03.82 to move into fourth all-time in the Drake indoor record book while Aidan Simon got fifth in the race (4:05.40) and etched his name as seventh fastest in school history.
Enzo Marie put together a runner-up performance of 8:02.91 in the men's 3000m run, which also ranks second all-time at Drake. Brogan Giffin cracked the top-10 in school history with his 3000m time of 8:14.76.
In the men's shot put, Cooper Cerese wound up in fourth place in the meet (59-11 3/4) while Austin Jentz was sixth (49-4 1/2).
Drake track & field will compete next weekend, Jan. 26-27 at the Black & Gold Invitational hosted by Iowa.
