CHICAGO, Ill. – The Drake cross country team took part in the 45th Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invite in the Windy City of Chicago on Friday. The Bulldogs competed fiercely as part of a loaded field.
"Left the Lakefront with mixed results today," Drake head coach
Jay Koloseus said. "On the women's side, we executed the race plan perfectly. In such an elite field, I think it's easy to assume that it was a difficult day, but our women produced almost all personal records."
Tyla Lumley was the lone Bulldog to finish in the top 50 in the women's 6k championship race. Lumley came across the line in 20:44.2.
Emilie Meyer (81st, 21:12.7),
Breanna Burak (86th, 21:14.0), and
Anastasia Kirillov (93rd, 21:18.8) also posted top-100 results for the Dogs.
Brogan Giffin (48th) and
Aidan Simon (49th) went back-to-back in 24:09.0 and 24:09.4, respectively.
Enzo Marie posted a 76th-place finish (24:24.0),
Juan Trasobares came across in 82nd (24:29.1), and
Harrison Martinenko earned 93rd (24:39.0) to round out the top Bulldog finishers. The Bulldog men earned a 13th-place finish among the 15 teams in consideration.
"We were humbled a bit on the men's side," Koloseus added. "A fast early pace showed some weakness we have. Despite that, we still produced a number of lifetime bests. We have a few athletes to get back to health and are ready to head to Peoria in two weeks."
Drake will return to the Land of Lincoln for their next event when they race at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill. on Friday, Oct. 18.
