CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Drake University cross country team ran in the 2024 MVC Championships in Cedar Falls on Friday afternoon. Both Drake men's and women's squads earned fourth place in the team race, and each posted a pair of top 10 individual finishers.
Junior
Tyla Lumley earned runner-up status in the women's race after cross the line with a new personal best of 20:23.2 in the 6K. Lumley's second place finish marked her individual best placement at the conference meet. She was joined in the top 10 by Drake newcomer
Breanna Burak who also posted a personal record of 20:32.8 while taking sixth.
Veteran runner
Emilie Meyer ran a time of 21:01.2 to take 19th while
Anastasia Kirillov garnered 24th with a mark of 21:13.5,
Chiara Belfico got 50th in 22:11.2, and
Gracie Shannon (52nd) ran 22:15.3. Those four Bulldogs all had personal bests. Erin Macfarlane and
Meghan Coulter rounded out the effort of the Drake women with times of 23:16.9 and 24:12.2, respectively.
Brogan Giffin and
Enzo Marie led the Drake's men's 8K efforts with placements of eighth and ninth, respectively. Giffin came across in 23:40.4 while Marie's time was 23:49.9. Both Giffin and Marie posted personal bests.
Juan Trasobares added a 19th place finish in 24:03.4.
Aidan Ramsey (25th, 24:14.1) and
Harrison Martinenko (28th, 24:24.1) rounded out Bulldogs in the top 30. That trio also had personal record results. Other Drake runners
Aidan Simon (42nd) and
Brendan Cain (44th) had respective times of 24:44.3 and 24:46.2.
William Sinclair of Illinois State won the men's individual championship with a time of 23:02.9 while Indiana State's Emma Gresham outran the women's field to win the crown in 20:09.7. The Braves of Bradley won both men's and women's team titles.
