Softball Announces Hartz as Assistant Coach

Hartz set to join Bulldogs for upcoming season

DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake softball head coach Lindsay Diehl has announced the addition of Gretta Hartz to the coaching staff.

Hartz will serve as an assistant coach and comes to Des Moines after completing her collegiate playing career at the University of Northen Iowa and Indian Hills Community College.

A Runnels, Iowa native, Hartz attended Southeast Polk High School and continued her athletic career at Indian Hills for two seasons. While with the Warriors, Hartz had a .388 batting average in 2022 with 14 home runs and 19 stolen bases. In her 2021 season with the Warriors, Hartz hit at a clip of .295 with eight home runs and 21 stolen bases.

At UNI, the outfielder appeared in 48 games, with a pair of starts over the past two seasons. Hartz excelled on the base paths for the Panthers scoring 22 runs and collecting nine stolen bases.

"The opportunity to add a former player to our coaching staff is extremely exciting," Diehl said. "Gretta played with energy and was 'all in' when we were together at Indian Hills. She has already brought both of those qualities to our Drake Softball staff. She understands what it takes to compete at a high level in both the classroom and on the field. She also brings the knowledge and mindset of what it takes to win in the Missouri Valley Conference, and I believe she will help us guide this program to the next level."

Hartz earned her bachelor's degree from UNI in business teaching and has had prior coaching experience at the high school level serving as both an assistant and head coach at the ninth grade level and an assistant at the varsity level.
