The Drake track & field teams put together a historic weekend split between the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass., Feb. 9-10.
Three school records were broken, not to mention numerous personal bests and season bests were set between the two meets.
At the Tyson Invitational, Emilie Meyer broke Gina DeWitt's record with her 800m time of 2:08.19. The previous record (2:09.24) by DeWitt was set back in 1995.
Centaine Noom-Duckworth bettered her own program record in the Tyson Invitational women's weight throw with a toss of 19.26m/63-2 ¼.
Almost exactly a year after setting the Drake school record in the men's mile at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, Isaac Basten returned to Boston and broke that mark with mile time of 3:53.54 to finish eighth overall (second amongst collegiate competitors).
"We are excited to ride this momentum into the MVC Championships," head coach Jay Koloseus said. "I can't be much prouder than I am right now."
Also at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, Brooke Mullins (16:23.37) and Carmen Krawczynski Gonzalez (16:33.34) competed in the women's 5000m. Aziz Jdai (14:00.41) and Brogan Giffin (14:02.44) in the men's 5000m along with Enzo Marie (8:06.06) in the men's 3000m wrapped up the races in Boston for Drake.
Inside the Randal Tyson Center, Adam Phillips finished fifth in the men's weight throw with a heave of 21.48m/70-5 ¾.
Tyla Lumley had her season best time of 9:50.24 in the women's 3000m while Anastasia Kirillov set a personal best of 10:15.94.
Madison Bunton kept displaying improvement this season with a personal best (58.32) in the women's 400m.
Aidan Simon crossed the finish line in sixth place in the men's mile at the Tyson Invitational with his personal best of 4:04.37.
On Friday night both Justin Cunningham (6.84) and Kristian Lodholz (6.85) set personal bests in the men's 60m qualifying round.
Drake track & field is scheduled to compete next at the Iowa Open on Friday, Feb. 16.
