IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Drake track & field teams competed at the Iowa Open on Friday, Feb. 16, which was their last indoor meet before the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 25-26.
"We accomplished what we needed to today," head coach
Jay Koloseus said. "All areas of our team were able to use this weekend as a final tuneup prior to our conference championship. We saw great efforts and many athletes came home with lifetime best marks."
In the field events,
Centaine Noom-Duckworth set a meet record with a weight throw of 19.19m/62-11.50 and was followed by
Chinemerem Iwuagwu's personal record of 17.97m/58-11.50.
Adam Phillips also broke the meet record in the men's weight throw with a heave of 21.59m/70-10.00 while
Anthony Barmes (21.12m/69-03.50) and
Sam Carpenter (65-06.00) both set personal bests.
Cooper Cerese wound up in fourth in the men's shot put (15.37m/50-05.25).
Favor Omoijuanfro finished fifth in the women's 60m dash (8.17) just ahead of teammate
Leah Duncan who had a season-best time of 8.26. In the men's 60m,
William Skinner set a personal best of 7.34.
Briandrias Rhodes (25.84) was runner-up in the women's 200m.
Erin MacFarlane (2:16.71) and
Gracie Shannon (2:18.81) were fourth and fifth respectively in the women's 800m.
Meghan Coulter (5:21.50) and
Maia Italia (5:27.49) both finished in the Top 10 with personal bests during the women's mile.
The Bulldogs will continue to prepare for the MVC Indoor Track & Field Championships to be held in Chicago, Feb. 25-26.
