Softball Preview: Oklahoma State/Tulsa Invite

Lindsay Diehl's crew set for another non-conference tournament weekend

The Basics
The Bulldogs 6-4 season record could see a shake up this weekend as Drake will travel to Stillwater and Tulsa, Oklahoma for the Oklahoma State/Tulsa Invite. The team will meet with three competitors over five games between Mar. 1-3.

Bulldogs by the Numbers
After going 4-1 in the Doc Halverson UNI-Dome Classic, the Bulldogs were looking to add to their record as the Lindsey Diehl era continued last weekend after a 2-3 run in the Hillenbrand Invite in Tucson, Ariz.

Molly Hoekstra and Emma Dighton lead the Bulldogs pitching staff with both wins against Central Michigan. Dighton held a 2.44 ERA against CMU in the Bulldogs second game and had the help of Emily Valtman's homerun and 2 RBI and Carey Koenig for the 4-3 win.

Scouting the Competition
Drake will kick off this week's action on Friday, Mar. 1, at 12:30 PM against Kansas City before playing them again on Saturday, Mar. 2 at 12:30 p.m. The Roos currently hold a 6-9 record went 4-1 at the Houston Christian Tournament. Their four wins in Houston came by a combined 27 runs. The Bulldogs are currently 32-9 in the all-time series against the Roos.

The Bulldogs will also take on the Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Friday, Mar. 1, at 5:30 p.m. The Cowgirls are currently 13-2 for the season, on a seven-game winning streak, and rank No. 6 in the country in multiple polls. The Cowgirls have only lost to Georgia and LSU this season and will be some prime competition for the Bulldogs. Drake has a 1-5 record against the Cowgirls with their lone win coming in 2007.

Drake will be meeting up with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Saturday, Mar. 2, at 5:30 p.m. The Hurricanes sit at a 9-5 record for the season so far with a four-game winning streak. Significant losses for the Hurricanes were against No. 24 Texas A&M in a double header on Feb. 11 and Texas Tech on Feb. 17. The Bulldogs currently sit at a 2-5 all-time against the Golden Hurricane.

Lastly, Drake will play Seattle on Sunday, Mar. 3, at 9:30 a.m. to wrap up the invite. Seattle is 6-9 on the season and recently went 1-4 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in California. Two of their defeats there were to ranked opponents California, the No. 21 team in the country, and Oklahoma, the No. 1 team in the nation. Sunday's tilt will be the first-ever meeting between Drake and Seattle.

Up Next
The Bulldogs will head to the Rockies as they are set to compete in the Colorado State Rams Invite. Drake will have two games against tournament hosts Colorado State, a game against Maine, and two games against Idaho State with their first game being on from Mar. 8-10.
