NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – The spring season is officially underway for Drake women's golf as the Bulldogs concluded play at the Texas State Invitational hosted by Landa Park Golf Club on Tuesday, Feb. 6.
"Each round showed improvements over the two days," head coach
Steve Smith said. "We had the fourth lowest round of the day in the final round. I am proud of all of the players and their attitudes. It was a very good experience as we continue to improve."
Drake (316-309-308—933) finished in ninth on the team leaderboard while host Texas State (284-286-291—861) took the team title.
Amber Henson (75-79-79—233) led the way for Drake through the first two rounds on Friday. Henson finished in a tie for 31
st overall with
Rylee Heryford (78-80-75—233), who finished the tournament strong.
Erika Holmberg (83-74-77—234) turned in the lowest round of the tournament for the Bulldogs with a 74 in round two.
Aayushi Sarkar (80-78-77—235) was right there with the pack of Bulldogs after a consistently improving three rounds.
Julie Huggins (84-78-81—243) rounded out Drake's competitors.
Drake women's golf has almost a month off until its next competition, the UTRGV Invitational March 4-5.
